Mobile Number Portability in India to cost Rs. 19

The final date for Mobile Number Portability (MNP) across India has finally been fixed even as it was launched in Haryana yesterday ( Nov 27). Now mobile users in Kolkata will be able to switch service providers while retaining their numbers from January 20, 2011 when MNP will be implemented across India, The Telegraph reports. Telecom minister Kapil Sibal told reporters while launching MNP in Haryana, "Mobile number portability will be rolled out across India on January 20, 2011." A senior executive for a top operator added, "There could be some introductory tariff plans for customers changing service providers. High-speed value-added services such as video calls can also be used to lure new customers. Operators could also waive porting charges as an incentive." MNP is applicable within the circle, and you cannot use it if you want to shift to another city outside the circle. India’s 3G Auction Ends; Operator And Circle-Wise Results

The results, by telecom operator: BSNL While it did not participate in the 3G auction, BSNL will have to pay the Indian government Rs. 10,187 crores for spectrum in 20 of the 22 circles. Its costliest circles are Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, at Rs. 4418 crores for the three circles. BSNL, Uninor Get Max Number of New Subscribers in September

Based on the COAI report, the number of Indian GSM subscriber has increased by 12.4 million users. With this addition, the total number of GSM subsricbers has become 494 million against the 481 million the previous month - a 2.58 percent increase from August which reported 481 million GSM subscribers in the country. According to report, for the month of September 2010, BSNL topped the list with 2.3 million new subscribers followed closely by the newcomer Uninor which reported 2.17 million new subscibers. This report shows Airtel and Vodafone, the two giants in India GSM market, beaten by Uninor and BSNL surprisingly with Airtel adding 2million and 1.7 million for Vodafone. With these new additions, BSNL now has 72.6 million subscribers while Uninor is reported to have 11 million subscribers in total. In terms of total number of subsribers though, Airtel still leads the market with its 143 million subscribers while Vodafone is following with 115 million users...
